For nearly 20 years, 121 Railton Road was occupied by a collective of anarchists. The 121 Railton Road squat became a round the clock organising centre, complete with book shop, cafe and disco.

The building housed the Kate Sharpley Library, where the photo above is taken from. Kate Sharpley was an anarchist and a trade union organiser.
The photo was taken around 1984/5 – identifiable by the’support the miners’ banner hanging from the top floor.
The centre was eventually evicted in 1999 at the order of the Council. The story of the eviction can be found (with photos) on Urban 75.
